7 CHEAPEST UK UNIVERSITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

If you want to study in the UK, unfortunately it doesn’t come cheap – around £12,200/US$15,640 is needed for living costs alone.

Domestic/EU students can now be charged a maximum of £9,250 (~€10,060) for an undergraduate degree, while international undergraduate tuition fees vary considerably.

So, if you’re on a budget and looking for more affordable options, here are the 12 cheapest UK universities for international students.

Of course, these fees are still high – but luckily there are plenty of scholarships available.

1. Leeds Beckett University

Annual international tuition fees: £9,700 (~US$12,400)

Previously known as Leeds Metropolitan University, the cheapest UK university for international students is Leeds Beckett University,

where tuition fees for non-EU students are only £450 more than the amount paid by all domestic/EU students (£9,250 a year, which is about €10,060/US$11,860 at the time of writing).

Although it doesn’t currently appear in the QS World University Rankings®, Leeds Beckett does receive four stars out of five in the QS Stars opt-in rating system, scoring top marks for its Internationalisation, Specialist Criteria, Employability, Facilitates and Inclusiveness. Leeds Beckett is popular with international students and was ranked fourth in the UK for graduate employability, with 96.6% of graduates in work or further study six months after graduation. Notable alumni of Leeds Beckett include Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson.

2. York St John University

Annual international tuition fees: £10,000 (~US$12,800)

If you’re interested in studying up north in the historic city of York, York St John University could be ideal. The university has almost 6,000 students, with far more women enrolled than men, and has a graduate employment rate of 94%.

3. The University of Suffolk

Annual international tuition fees: £10,080 (~US$12,900)

The next of these cheapest universities for international students in the UK is also one of the youngest, with the University of Suffolk only 10 years old (having been founded in 2007). The university has around 5,000 students, again with a large proportion of female students. It has five sites, with its main campus in Ipswich.

4. University of Wales, Trinity Saint David

Annual international tuition fees: £10,200 (~US$13,070)If you want to study in Wales, the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David could be ideal, offering the cheapest tuition fees for international students in the country. It’s another young university, founded in 2010 through the merger of some of the oldest universities in Wales, the University of Wales, Lampeter (UWL) and Trinity University College (TUC).

7. University of Chester

Annual international tuition fees: £10,500 (~US$13,440)

The next in our list of the cheapest universities for international students, the University of Chester, has been in existence since 1839 (when it was known as Chester Diocesan Training College) and didn’t gain full university status until 2005. The university has five campuses in and around Chester, one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country, and has around 19,850 students.
