To understand African politics, it is necessary to look at its geography and to examine its cultural system, social structure, economic and demographic system (the intra-societal system) and its relationship with the outside world (the extra-societal system). To understand the intra-societal system the author presents the approximate per capita income, mobility rate, literacy rate and life expectancy of some African countries (Algeria, Ethiopia, Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Zaire, Lesotho and Swaziland). To understand the extra-societal system the author analyses the influence of the United States, Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China on some African countries. Notes, fig.
