Asante-Dahomey contacts in the 19th century

One of the questions often asked is whether there were any friendly contacts between African states and kingdoms prior to the partition of Africa and the emergence of the modern independent states. Recent research has been throwing light on this problem and it is becoming clear that African states and kingdoms were maintaining contacts among themselves prior to the colonial era. Dr. Tordoff has already drawn attention to the relations between Prempeh I and Samori. Between 1870 and 1890, the latter dominated territory from the modern Guinea to modern Ghana. In this short note, the author would also like to draw attention to some pieces of evidence that indicate some contact between Asante and Dahomey in the nineteenth century. References. notes.
