Abstract: | This article discerns the factors which may have influenced the behaviour of local government expenditure in the Sudan during the period 1955-1967, in the light of hypotheses which have been investigated in the context of advanced countries, e. g. the U.S.A. Subsequently, the author examines whether the behaviour of local government expenditure vis–vis that of the central government precipitated more ‘concentration’ or otherwise. Sections: Local government in the Sudan – Determinants of local government expenditure in the Sudan – The behaviour of local government current expenditures in relation to central government expenditures.
