Economics in underdeveloped countries

Referring to Boeke the author makes an effort to reduce; the wave of negative thinking about the so-called ‘western economics’ in underdeveloped countries (udc). The basic premise is that if B wants to adapt its ‘economic order’ to that of A, then the theoretical system of A will be of some use to B. even before the adaptation is completed. The paper has three almost distinct sections: 1. discusses some assumptions; 2. discusses the teaching of Economic Theory and ends with what amounts to a review of the textbook by Livingstone and Ord; 3. briefly discusses the teaching of Development Economics and starts with a digression of the Will to Develop (Politico-Socio-Economy). The paper perhaps justifies Boeke’s statement that ‘economists (who) are natives (of an udc) do not like to view it in its dualistic character and to attribute primitive economics to any pant of it. They feel this is a disparagement of themselves and their people… They know it but on principle they shut their eyes to it’. Ref.

Abstract: Referring to Boeke the author makes an effort to reduce; the wave of negative thinking about the so-called ‘western economics’ in underdeveloped countries (udc). Ref.
