Abstract: | Purpose is to find out how far financial intermediation has progressed with economic growth in selected African countries (Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya. Malagasy Republic, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tunisia, Zambia) and whether it has been instrumental in generating development. In other words, an attempt is made to see whether financial intermediation is both a necessary and a sufficient condition for economic growth. Sections: 1. Theoretical basis of financial intermediation: some questions; 2. Financial intermediation in Africa; 3. Conclusion. Ref., notes, charts, table. Summaries: English p. 238, French p. 248, Spanish p. 258-259. |
