Guide-posts in Afroamerican genealogical research

This brief bibliographic note highlights works of general interest, methodological and resource guides, and personal testimonies that pertain to Afroamerican genealogical research. The note points to some of the ‘guide-posts’ that novices who contemplate working in the area of Afroamerican genealogy may wish to consult as they embark upon their research ventures into family life and history. These guide-posts are divided into four basic categories. The first three categories are published works relating to general interests, methods and sources, and personal testimonies. The fourth category is unpublished works. This category constitutes conference papers (prepared by scholars trained in the disciplines of anthroplogy, history, sociology, and social work) outlining some of the old and new directions, needs, and uses of Afroamerican genealogical research.
