Abstract: | Text in Italian. Sum.: The Hamalliyya, also known as Tijaniyya 11 beads, is an Islamic movement of liberation and salvation, in which religious expectations and social problems are intermingled. Its expansion is specifically related to the ‘colonial situation’ of French West Africa (Afrique occidentale franaise) in the period 1920-1940. Although severely hindered by the colonial administration, the Hamalliyya managed to establish itself, revealing its originality both in mystical practice and political activity. It distinguished itself from other African Islamic brotherhoods by its refusal to enter into a dialogue with the colonizers and its resistance to Western cultural influence. Notes, ref., sum. also in French. |
