Abstract: | Joseph Kimalando was one of the seventeen men who founded the Tanganyika African National Union in July 1954. This article is an attempt to explain how Joseph Kimalando came to be one of those who took part in this crucial event in the history of Tanganyika. Kimalando has told the story of his life, and explained how he came to be a politician, in 1968, at his home in Majengo, a suburb of Moshi town. This article is an amplification of the notes taken down by Mr. Frederick: Childhood and early life – Growth of political sensitivity – The opening of an African Association branch in Moshi – Attainment of complete political consciousness – The African Association at Moshi, 1947-52 – The revival of the African Association – End of a political career. |
