Abstract: | A critical analysis of the matrimonial law of the Sudan. The introductory ch. deals with ‘Polygamy and the law’, but contains other matters such as the Muslim husband’s right of chastisement, jurisdictional problems and the problem of a uniform marriage code. The main part of the book is divided into 3 parts: A. Unmixed marriages (Marriage by Mohammedan law – Marriage within an excepted community – Marriage under the non-Mohammedan marriage ordinance – Marriage otherwise). B. Mixed marriages (Classification and jurisdiction – Internal mixed marriages – Internationally mixed marriages – The effect of religious conversion on marriage). C. Residuary (Matrimonial jurisdiction of local courts – Marriage and property). Appendix 1. Marriage and the criminal law. Appendix 2. A note on legitimacy. (Rev. in S. N. and R. 45 (1964), p. 175-77). |
