Abstract: | In this paper it will be argued, contrary to the general rule, that the basic rights and duties acquired by husbands over their wives are the same in several kinds of marriages known to the Rukuba but that the bridewealth to be paid – or not paid – varies considerably according to the case. The first part investigates the variations of bridewealth in the different types of marriage and shows that the reasons for them are ideological. The second part links structural functionalism and French structuralism. Map, notes, ref., rsum en franais. |
