Abstract: | Public and private international law are regarded and treated as separate fields of law. They are, however, not totally unrelated. In this regard the authors concern centres on what effect, if any, Security Council resolutions providing for an arms or economic embargo boycott against a particular state will have on private contracts in conflict of law situations. Sections: Sources of public international law – Security Council decisions affecting Rhodesia and South Africa – International law and municipal law (incorporation of international law into municipal law; Europe; United States; Britain; South Africa; Swaziland) – Validity of contracts in private international law – The effects of resolutions 232, 253 and 418 on contracts.
