Abstract: | A conservation area may in general be described as an area set aside and managed to conserve indige nous flora, fauna, ecosystems, natural resources and other natural phenomena. South African law provides for the establishment of a wide variety of conservation areas. In the introduction of this article the concept of conservation area is worked out. Then follows a suryey of the different conservation areas. Next comes an analysis of conservation area from the viewpoint of legislation. Finally the author recommends a national policy on nature conser vation management and jurisdiction. – Notes, tab. |
