Abstract: | The article sets out the customsry law rules of conveyances in Ghana, examines the problems arising from the co-existence of common law and customary law in this field, and mentions the relevant Ghanaian legislation. The conveyances discussed are grants inter vivos of the grantor’s entire interest in the land. Successively the article discusses A. Customary law sales of interests in land – B. Customary law gifts of interests in land – C. The use of writing in customary law conveyances – D. The use of conveyances taking effect under common law – E. The possibility of ‘mixed’ conveyances – F. The distinctions between customary law, common law, and mixed conveyances G. Special types of conveyances introduced by legislation. |
