Abstract: | Provides a brief, descriptive outline of the population of the Cape Peninsula (Sellville, The Cape, Simonstown and Wynberg) with special emphasic on the working population. The data are from the 1970 census. Sections: the population of the Peninsula – the potential labour force – employment by industrial sector – employment in different occupations – organised labour in the Peninsula – unionisation by economic sector. Conclusion: employment in the Cape Peninsula has a structure which differs from that in the other metropolitan areas. The plight of the African workers here is particularly unenviable. Tables. |
