Abstract: | In Nigeria in the 1970s, due to rising oil revenues, official attention has switched from balance of payments concerns to agricultural policy. However, the problems of growth in agriculture predate the oil period and-there is in fact a contrast between the rate of growth of agricultural output in the 1950s and the period after 1960. Food import volume growth has decelerated since 1960 and per capita food supply has fallen between 1960 and 1974 in contrast to the 1950s when it grew rapidly. Notes, ref., tab. |
