Starts with some theoretical considerations on: Manpower requirements (reference is made: to the Marginal Productivity-Theory; Rehn – Unionism and the Wage Structure in Sweden; R.A. Lester – A range theory of differentials); Classification of factors; The total wage structure (reference is made to: J.T. Dunlop – The Theory of Wage Determination); The wage structure (reference is made to the work of Prof. H.G. Steyn). Further considered: The Rhodesian structures; The African wage structure; The European wage structure. Interim conclusions: A great upwards movement of incomes in the lower groups and a decreasing movement in the upper categories. The differentials between the unskilled (Africans) and lower-semi-skilled (Europeans) groups have widened. The Africans are today relatively worse off than they were in 1953/54. In the general conclusions reference is made to Clerk Kerr.
