This project is to determine the rate of UTI infections among federal health centre patients in a named Nigerian state and also determines the common organisms that cause these infections among these patients. This project will help in choosing which antimicrobial or ant parasitic drug would be most suitable for patients in that Nigerian state.

2. The effect of vitamin c on tetracycline induced testicular toxicity in male albino Wistar rats

Tetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used in the clinical treatment of bacterial infections. It is known to cause several biochemical dysfunctions and is suspected to affect the testes of humans and animals. This study evaluates the spermatozoic effect of tetracycline in male Wistar rats and the chemo-protective effect of vitamin c.

3. Investigating the anti-fertility effect of inhaled Cannabis sativa (marijuana) on male albino Wistar rats

The consumption of marijuana among males has increased over the years. It is therefore important to understand its mechanism of action, its effect on the testes and if it has an impact on infertility among males. This study will determine the connection between infertility in males and marijuana and also, at what concentration does marijuana become spermatotoxic.

4. The nutritional benefits of Plant milk; nutritional composition of soya bean

This project aims to determine; the chemical and physical properties of soya bean milk, the effect of pasteurization on soya bean milk and the nutritional composition of soya bean milk.

5. Toxicity of calabash Clay (Nzu) and its effect on pregnancy in female Albino Wistar rats

Calabash clay (Nzu) is a chalk-like sandy material consumed by pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers as a cure for morning sickness. This study aims at evaluating; the possible toxicity of calabash clay and its effect on pregnant Wistar rats.

6. Analyzing the gender difference in haemoglobin levels in adults

Men and women have different mean haemoglobin levels in their blood. A study has shown that women have a hemoglobin mean level at about 12% lower than men. This study would determine; the mechanism by which haemoglobin is formed in adult males and females, the cause for the difference in concentration of hemoglobin in both adult gender and consequences this difference has on each gender.

7. Controlling pests with pesticides; are humans at risk by consuming crops grown with pesticides?

This study aims at determining; the mechanism by which pesticides act, the possibility of having residual chemicals from the pesticides on the plants and the effect of consuming such crops by humans.

8. Phytochemical screening of Vernonia amygdalina (bitter leaf) and the effect of its aqueous leaf extract on the blood glucose level of Alloxan-induced diabetic male albino Wistar rats

Diabetes is a major disorder of carbohydrates, proteins and lipid metabolism. This study determines the phytochemical properties of bitter leaf. It also evaluates the effect of orally administered aqueous leaf extract of Vernonia amygdalina on serum glucose and lipid profile of rats induced with diabetes.

9. In-vitro study on the aqueous leaf extract of Azadirachta Indica (Neem leaf); an in-depth study on its antibacterial effect on methicillin-sensitive and resistant Staphylococcus aureus

This study determines if the extract of Neem leaf has any antibacterial properties that could terminate the growth of methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It also compares the anti-staphylococcal properties of Neem leaf extract with oxacillin and mupirocin.

10. Effects of drying on the nutritional composition of Moringa oleifera leaves

This study aims at determining the effect of different drying techniques on the proximate and other nutritional composition of Moringa oleifera leaves sourced from two eastern Nigerian states.

11. Investigating the repellent activities of the extract of Ocimum basilicum (sweet basil) against Aedes aegypti (yellow fever mosquito) on Rabbit Skin

This project evaluates the repellent activity, the effectiveness and the concentration of Ocimum basilicum that offer complete protection against mosquito bite on the skin of rabbits.

This project aims at isolating and identifying microorganisms on the door handles of campus shuttles in a federal university within Nigeria.

16. Phytochemical analysis of Cleome viscosa

Cleome viscosa is an annual sticky herb commonly known as Asian spider Flower, found as a common weed in India and through the tropics of the world. It is traditionally used as a relief for diarrhea, fever, inflammation, treatment of liver diseases and skin diseases. This project aims at analyzing extensively the phytochemical contains this plant. Knowing the phytochemical contains this plant will help determine what diseases it might likely cure therefore creating an opening for discoveries in the medical world.

17. The Ameliorative effect of ascorbic acid (vitamin c) on Cannabis sativa (marijuana) induced spermatotoxicity in male albino rats of the Wistar strain

Cannabis has been reported to induce testicular damage/spermatotoxicity. Studies have shown that oxidative stress is a mediator by which marijuana produces its negative effects. The production of reactive oxygen species which causes oxidative stress has been identified to be a major factor in infertility. Vitamin c, on the other hand, is a good antioxidant with an ability to mop up reactive oxygen species thereby diminishing oxidative stress. This project aims at determining the possibility of vitamin c to reduce the oxidative stress thereby ameliorating spermatotoxicity that leads to infertility caused by marijuana.

18. Investigating the existence of fungi spoilage organisms associated with ‘package’ and ‘unpackaged’ milk (soybean powder)

Generally, food products are all rich in nutrients that attract both bacteria and fungi to them. When these fungi and bacteria have contact with these foods, they cause food spoilage. This research aims at identifying and isolating fungi spoilage organisms in unpackaged milk (soybean powder) and packaged milk.

19. The risk of occupational exposure to pesticides and their effect on male fertility

Exposure to pesticides affects many organs in the body. This study focuses on establishing the possibility by which pesticides affect male reproduction and an overview of the mechanism by which it can affect fertility in males.

20. Evaluating the implication of consuming processed foods

Since the 19th century, the consumption of processed foods has increased a great deal. The use of food preservatives and additives is used in the processing industries to make these foods last an extended period. This project defines food preservatives and additives, their physical and chemical properties, way of absorption and mechanism. And lastly, its effect on the health of the consumers.

21. The possible beneficial effect of iron supplements on the occurrence of anemia during pregnancy

The occurrence of anemia during pregnancy is partly due to physiological hemodilution and the insufficient intake of essential nutrients for the synthesis of hemoglobin and red blood cell in the erythron. Pregnancy requires a high intake of nutrients such as iron, folic acid, and vitamin. This study evaluates the possible beneficial effect of iron supplements on the concentration of hemoglobin of reticulocytes and RBCs in subjects during their 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy.

22. The platelet; a thorough view on its functionality in old age

Platelets are tiny blood cells that help the body form clots o stop bleeding when injured. As one gets old, there becomes a clear change in the functionality of organs and tissues. This project aims at investigating the changes that occur in platelet count and functionality in old age.

23. Assessment on the level of bacterial contaminants on environmental surfaces; A case study of the surfaces on the keypads of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in a Nigerian state

It is common to say that environmental surfaces and objects are constantly exposed to microorganisms. Human hands play a vital role in transmitting and cross-contaminating microorganisms between environmental surfaces. This project investigates the presence and identification of bacteria on the keypads of ATM’s of commercial banks in a state within Nigeria.

24. The use of Polymerase Chain Reaction assay (PCR) and High-Resolution Melt Analysis in evaluating/investigating multidrug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis

This study uses an inexpensive way (Polymerase Chain Reaction assay) to detect the dominant mutations in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains responsible for their multidrug resistance.

25. Laboratory detection and study of Vancomycin-resistant staphylococci in patients attending a federal hospital in a state within Nigeria

This project focuses on investigating Vancomycin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus. It evaluates the major epidemiologic, microbiologic and clinical characteristics of Vancomycin resistance in S. aureus. It covers the laboratory detection of Vancomycin resistance and infection control issues related to the resistance.

26. Effect of unfavourable environmental conditions on the formation of nodules and fixation of Dinitrogen of legumes

This project studies the importance of nitrogen fixation in leguminous plants and the effect of several environmental conditions on the survival of legumes in the soil, possible infection of these legumes, nodule growth and the formation and Dinitrogen fixation.

27. The role of ethanolic extract of pepper fruit in diminishing heavy metals induced toxicity and poisoning in the liver of male albino Wistar rats; a case study of lead toxicity

This study aims at determining the efficacy of pepper fruit in diminishing lead-induced toxicity in the liver of male albino Wistar rats.

28. Investigating the efficacy of some herbal plants used in the treatment of epilepsy in Nigeria

Epilepsy is a nervous condition characterized by muscular rigidity and fixity of posture as well as decreased sensitivity to pain. This study identifies and evaluates the efficacy of the plants traditionally used in curing epilepsy in Nigeria.

29. Chemical water pollution and its implication on aquatic life. A case study of chemical water pollution caused by our everyday detergents

Detergents are manufactured from synthetic chemical compounds as cleaning products. This study evaluates the effect of phosphate-containing detergents on aquatic life.

30. Investigating Cymbopogon ciratus for the management and treatment of diabetes mellitus in Alloxan induced diabetic male albino Wistar rats

This project is aimed at analyzing the phytochemical properties of methanolic extract of lemongrass and its antihyperglycemic effect on Alloxan induced diabetes in male albino Wistar rats.

31. The role of ethanolic extract of the rootbark of Rauwolfia vomitoria in releasing luteinizing hormones, progesterone and testosterone in male and female albino Wistar rats

Reports show that alkaloids have a varying effect on the level of serum hormones. Rauwolfia vomitoria are known to have a high composition of alkaloids and have shown positive results in the treatment of various illnesses. This project, therefore, aims to determine the effect of the extract of the rootbark of Rauwolfia vomitoria on the serum level of male and female sex hormones.

32. Investigating the effect of weight on the blood pressure of hypersensitive patients

This project is aimed at investigating whether there is a relationship between weight and hypertension. It is also aimed at determining how much weight is considered to bring about an effect on the blood pressure of hypersensitive patients.

Tomato is a major dietary source of the antioxidant lycopene. Lycopene has many health benefits including reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer. This project assesses the different forms of processed tomato in an aim to determine the concentration of lycopene in them.

This study is aimed at investigating the bioactive compounds in pepper fruit.

37. Investigating the phytochemical and antimicrobial properties of a plant from the Rutaceae family: A case study of the seed and coat of Citrus sinensis (Sweet orange)

This study screens the coat and seeds of Citrus sinensis for the presence of phytochemicals. And also, determines the antifungal and antibacterial activities that may be present in its seed and coat.

38. A case study of hyperlipidemia and the effect of Ocium gratissinum (scent leaf) on the lipid profile of Albino male Wistar rats fed with a high-fat diet

Hyperlipidemia is defined as an abnormal increase in the level of lipid in the body. This causes the abnormal deposition of lipids in the arteries and other sites. This study determines the ability of scent leaf to reduce these depositions by an in-depth look into the lipid profile of rats fed with a high-fat diet and orally administered aqueous leaf extract of Ocium gratissinum.

39. The impact of the nutritional composition of poultry egg on cholesterol level

This project aims at evaluating the nutritional composition of poultry eggs and how it affects cholesterol homeostasis.

40. The In-vitro and In-vivo evaluation of the leaf extracts of Khaya senegalensis, Guiera senegalensis and Tamarindus indica as an anticoccidial agent against Eimeria tenella in broiler chicken

This is a study to determine the In-vivo and In-vitro anticoccidial activities of the leaf extracts of Khaya senegalensis, Guiera senegalensis, and Tamarindus indica. In this study, the leaf extract from these 3 plants are compared and the one with the most anticoccidial activity is determined.

41. The use of ocean water as an irrigation supplement; the effect of ocean water on as an irrigation supplement on the growth of rice seedlings

The objective of this project is to determine the tolerance level of ocean water with different diluted salinity levels on the growth of rice seedlings.

This study is conducted to isolate and identify pathogenic bacteria in public bathrooms in a federal university within Nigeria and to determine their resistance to some common antibiotics.

45. Extraction solvents and its effect on the chemical properties and structure of starch from Tobacco leaves and sweet potatoes

This project evaluates extraction solvents used in isolating starches. It also determines the extent of degradation of starch during the chemical extraction of Tobacco leaves and sweet potatoes. Finally, it compares all the extraction solvent used and identifies which solvent better is best for isolating starch from sweet potatoes and Tobacco leaves.

46. The ameliorative effect of ethanolic extract of the roots of Securidaca long pedunculata in reducing tumour (U87) brain cells

Securidaca long pedunculata plant is used most commonly in northern Nigeria where it is crowned the mother of all medicines. The locals use it traditionally in the treatment of many illnesses including most forms of cancer. This project is aimed at evaluating the anticancer activity of the plant extract using the U87 brain tumour cell line.

47. The effect of ethanolic extract of Zingiber officinale (ginger) on infertility in male albino Wistar rats

Ginger is used daily as food spices and in herbal medicine. It is a great source of manganese, which is essential to sperm count and sex drive in males, by helping the body produce testosterone. This project aims at investigating changes in the semen analysis of albino male Wistar rats administered with ginger extract.

48. Investigating the growth and survival rate of hydroponically grown plants and conventional soil-grown plants

This study is aimed at comparing the growth rate of plants cultivated by hydroponics planting with the growth rate of plants cultivated by the conventional (soil) planting method.

49. Investigating heavy metals in wild and farmed Clarias gariepnius (African Catfish) in selected rivers and fish farms in Rivers State, Nigeria

The increasing use of metals in industries and mining activities has led to serious environmental pollution; not excluding water bodies, with oil pipelines leaking into these waters. Humans and animals feed on produce from water (catfish). If these water bodies are polluted, it, therefore, means that consuming a fish from them is unhealthy to the body. This project aims at analyzing the quality of water and the concentration of heavy metals in fishes produced in selected water bodies and fish farms in Rivers State.

Coconut water is obtained from the coconut fruit. Natural phytochemical are gotten from medicinal plants and are beneficial to the body; among other important benefits, they help the body fight against diseases. This project aims at investigating the presence of phytochemical in coconut water.

51. Comparative analysis of water contaminants water from wells in a Nigerian state

Water is very important to the survival of like. It is important to always have access to clean drinking water. Unfortunately, some Nigerian states do not have enough boreholes to serve everyone with clean water and thus, locals depend on water from hand-dug wells. This project enumerates the contaminants present in such wells and a possible measure to bring such contaminated water to the cleanest state.

This study investigates the effect of aqueous leaf extract of Vernonia amygdaline on the lipid profile of diet-induced obese albino Wistar rats.

54. Investigating the toxicity of herbicides to juveniles of Clarias gariepnius (the African Catfish) (A case study of the herbicide Atrazine)

The use of pesticides and herbicides in farming has received so much global attention as its usage can create potential risks to the environment and human health, and easily pollute water bodies; thereby damaging non-target species. This study investigates the effect of atrazine on the growth of C. gariepnius juvenile and the acute and sub-lethal effects of atrazine on the histology of the gills and liver of C. gariepnius.

55. Evaluating the effect of prolonged administration of Artemether/Lumefantrine on sperm and testosterone concentration in albino adult male Wistar rats

The Artemether/Lumefantrine combination is a fixed-dose artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) used for the treatment of acute uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. This study was designed to investigate the effect of the long-term administration of Artemether/Lumefantrine on the quality of semen and histology of the testis in male albino Wistar rats.

56. Evaluating the tolerance level of bean seeds for freezing temperatures.

This project investigates bean seeds tolerance for freezing. It is done by measuring the germination rate of the bean seeds after it has been frozen at various intervals.

57. Comparing sorghum with maize and barley as brewing adjuncts

Adjuncts are used in brewing to increase extract yield and beer stability, and also to reduce the cost of brewing. This study evaluated the effect of sorghum as an adjunct in comparison with other cereal adjuncts on amino acid and peptide content (wort properties)

58. Investigating the effect of dichlorobiphenyl trichloroethane (DDT) and benzene hexachloride (BHC) on the microflora of 3 soil types

This project determines; the effect of the pesticides dichlorobiphenyl trichloroethane (DDT) and benzene hexachloride (BHC) on the microflora concentration and activity of loamy, sandy and clay soil, identifies and isolates soil microflora from the 3 soil types and determines the soil type that is most affected by pesticides.

59. The occurrence of Trichomoniasis among pregnant women attending antenatal in a federal medical centre within Nigeria

This project aims at isolating the protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis in pregnant women and recommends the possible way of preventing and controlling the spread of the parasite to the unborn child and sex partner(s).

60. Evaluating the antibacterial activity of 3 brands of medicated soaps in Nigeria on Staphylococcus aureus from wound infection

This study aims to; isolate Staphylococcus aureus from wound infection and to determine the antibacterial activity of Medi soft medicated/complexion soap, Tetmosol medicated soap and Septol antiseptic/medicated soap on Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the wound infection.
