For the admission in a college, weight 40 is given to the marks in 12th class and weight 60 is given to the marks in entrance exam of each student

For admission in a college, weight 40 is given to the marks in the 12th class and weight 60 is given to the marks in the entrance exam of each student. As per the merit list of the college, a student can get admission only if his weighted marks are 77 %. If a student scored 82 % in the 12th class and 78 % in the entrance exam, can he get admission to this college?

Correct Answer

The weight of marks in 12th is 40% and the student gets 82% in 12th.

1. Weightage of his 12th marks in college admission is 82/100 x 40 = 328/10 = 32.8

2. Weight of marks in the entrance exam is 60% and students get 78% in the entrance exam.

3. Weightage of his entrance exam marks in college admission is 78/100 x 60 = 468/10 = 46.8

4. Weightage marks of student in college admission is 32.8+46.8 = 79.6% > 77%

5. Since students’ weightage marks is 79.6% which is greater than 77%.

Students can get admission into the college.
