PHOENIX (May 20, 2023) – Njambi Mathenge, MD, MPH, an interventional cardiology fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital has been selected as the recipient of the SCAI-Women in Innovations (SCAI-WIN) CHIP Fellowship, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions announced today.
The $115,000 fellowship opportunity was made possible by support from Abiomed (founding supporter), Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Shockwave Medical, Inc., and is offered to interventional cardiology (IC) fellows or practicing interventional cardiologists interested in pursuing an additional year
of advanced training (beyond traditional IC fellowships) focusing on complex and high-risk coronary intervention (CHIP), chronic total occlusions (CTO), and percutaneous mechanical circulatory support (MCS) training in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
“We are delighted to award Dr. Njambi Mathenge the 2023-2024 SCAI WIN-CHIP Fellowship. Dr. Mathenge was selected from a group of highly accomplished interventional fellows for the SCAI WIN CHIP Fellowship award. She has a very bright future in interventional cardiology,” said Suzanne J. Baron, MD, MSc, FSCAI, chair of the SCAI-WIN Committee. “Dr. Mathenge is a trailblazer who has an innovative spirit, and we are sure that with the support of her program, she will maximize this fellowship opportunity.”
Dr. Mathenge will be pursuing her advanced fellowship training in the combined Mass General Brigham CHIP/CTO fellowship program at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She completed general cardiology fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, internal medicine residency and chief residency at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, and her Master of Public Health degree at the Rutgers School of Public Health. She received her medical degree with honors from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies.
